Web hosts iPower, PowWeb, StartLogic all owned by Endurance International Group

I am in the process of moving all of my hosting clients off of iPowerWeb (iPower) as each account comes up for renewal. It’s an opportunity to also upgrade the platform they’re on as it has been a few years for a lot of these websites.

Why? If you’ve ever dealt with iPower as a multiple-site manager, you know. They were bought or merged with Endurance International Group in MA about a year ago? (I can’t remember, doesn’t matter).

In the process they had to manually edit things like server paths in php configure files without knowledge of the site owner or administrator. They wound up killing an osCommerce installation for one of my clients. I can only imagine how many others were lost by their inexperienced developers who were charged with editing thousands of files. The task itself is unimaginable to me, and of course they screwed up a few.

Anyway, that’s just a single example. I’m moving these sites for many more reasons, the most important one being cost. Companies like IXWebhosting offer unlimited domains (8 unique IP’s – unlimited shared IP’s) for the price of a single domian on most hosts. Check out IX here. Below is a list of known web hosts also owned by Endurance International Group. Do yourself a favor and consider someone else to host your site(s).

Testing the Insights Plugin for WordPress

Vladimir Prelovac has written an interesting WP plugin called “Insights” which can be downloaded from his website here. Currently with Insights you can instantly search:

Returns about 30 Flickr images to choose from.

This didn’t work so well. I still had to grab the code from Youtube myself. My search didn’t return any hits for The Soulbenders. (Infamous 60′s garage band from Grand Rapids, MI and a dear friend. Good job on the video Aris!)

Music Video 2.0 and Mathieu Saura

Being the ex small-market minor-celeb-rocker that I am, I still enjoy reading the weekly live music industry insider newsletter from Encore, usually there is one or two decent articles in there.

The videos may not be playing on MTV, but they’re all over the Web, where sites like the Black Cab Sessions and Pitchfork TV have joined in with a similar minimalist style.

I especially like the Michael Stipe quote:

“Let’s put the final nail in the coffin on the term ‘music video’ and allow it to be something of the past because that’s exactly what it is,” said Stipe. “It served its purpose very well in the 1980s and 1990s. Music video’s time came and went.”
