The videos may not be playing on MTV, but they’re all over the Web, where sites like the Black Cab Sessions and Pitchfork TV have joined in with a similar minimalist style.

I especially like the Michael Stipe quote:

“Let’s put the final nail in the coffin on the term ‘music video’ and allow it to be something of the past because that’s exactly what it is,” said Stipe. “It served its purpose very well in the 1980s and 1990s. Music video’s time came and went.”

I do like a few of the artists who exist in that realm and I secretly wish that they didn’t. You could say Glen Campbell is one of them. “Rhinestone Cowboy” was one of the first 45rpm records I bought when I was a kid, but I didn’t follow his career beyond that until a good friend turned me on to this incredible songwriter with the awful voice named Jimmy Webb. Well, I needed to hear everything Webb had penned so I wound up listening to a lot of Glen Cambell, Art Garfunkel, the Supremes, and (throw in the name of any notable singer of the 70′s here).

I can’t say that I love every track, but there are a few real gems on here that are worth checking out.

I’ve been around long enough to remember designing websites in 1998 and yeah,… there weren’t many ways to make a website very “interactive” if thats what you want to call it. I once programmed my band’s home page to cycle through 20 background colors at a rate that could have induced a siezure. Be careful!!

Gamasutra.com’s Steve Fulton posted a massive history of the Atari company in which he catalogs with quotes from former Atari employees the incredible rise of Atari. I never owned a 2600 when I was a kid. My friend had Intellivision though, and we spent many hours and many more quarters at the arcade on classics like Battle Zone, Centepede, Tempest, and my favorite (which doesn’t get a mention in this piece) Star Castle. Follow the link and enjoy.
